EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has said that Moscow’s decision to block the export of millions of tons of Ukrainian grain is a real war crime.
“We call on Russia to unblock (Ukrainian) ports… It is unimaginable, it can not be imagined that millions of tons of wheat remain stranded in Ukraine, while in the rest of the world people suffer from hunger. “This is a real war crime, so I can not imagine that it will last much longer.” he said during his arrival at a meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Luxembourg.
Ukraine is a major exporter of some of the world’s largest staple foods, but at present, there are about 22 million tonnes of grain sitting in silos, waiting to be shipped across the globe.
