The spokesman for the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Peter Stano, reacted immediately after the controversial statements of Serbian Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin, who called the killing of Albanian civilians in Recak a “big lie and a forgery.” terrible”.
“NATO aggression began after a terrible lie about Recak. At the time, we were neither capable nor smart enough to tell the whole world what a horrible lie it was. The task of this generation is to show the whole world that they bombed us and made us criminals thanks to lies, and the blood of our children is on those who invented this lie“, Said the Serbian minister, according to whom Serbs” will never allow others to write about them “.
But Stano made it clear that the denial or modification of the Recak Massacre, in which 45 Albanian civilians were killed, is contrary to the values of the European Union and the project of integrating the Western Balkans.
“We reiterate that there is no room to deny or underestimate what happened in Recak“, Said the spokesman.
He added that the EU calls on the authorities throughout the region to work for a sincere and true assessment of the past, as there is a great need for reconciliation, stability and normalization of relations.
The massacre, in which Serbian forces executed 45 Albanian civilians in January 1999, was one of the decisive moments in launching NATO bombings against the Serbian army.
