For the first time, Tirana will use a new technology for waste collection and differentiation. Garbage will no longer be dumped in the bins we are used to so far, but in underground containers, which do not create dirt around them and avoid bad odors, especially in summer.
This new way of waste collection that will be initially piloted in some points of Tirana, will then be extended to other areas.
The presentation of the new technology was made in the presence of the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj and the Italian Ambassador to our country, Fabrizio Bucci. Mayor Veliaj said that time has shown that the creation of “Eco Tirana”, a cooperation between the Municipality of Tirana and that of Verona, and later Vicenza, is one of the success stories in public management.
“The biggest success story in public management was the partnership we had with Verona. Now the Municipality of Vicenza has joined us. In the beginning there was opposition, someone wrote on the portals that ‘they are taking our job’, but clearly now the work is getting better and cheaper “said Veliaj.
He asked for the cooperation of citizens for the success of the new initiative, as a new mentality is needed.
Today there are people who have run this country, former president and former prime minister who say “these are mafiosi from Rome, mafiosi from Vicenza, and those from Butrint”. But how can investors come when you hear a former president and former prime minister, who today has been declared ‘non grata’, who calls anyone who spoils his interest a ‘mafia’? A normal country does not work that way. Therefore, before we clear the asphalt roads of Tirana, we must once clear the streets of our logic, to become western people; if they have something, let them go and denounce them – as if these non-women solved their problems here and now they are also dealing with the problems of Verona and Vicenza! This madness must stop, if we want to be an open place, if we want to be a place that welcomes entrepreneurs “he declared.
Evaluating the government’s initiative to ban the use of plastic bags as a way to reduce pollution, the mayor explained how this project will be extended to the city. “We want the bins to be underground, so that they do not cover the surface of the road. But, we need to learn how to use them and make sure that the closed bins, underground, are not like the point where you just leave the bag at the head of the boiler. For this there will be volunteer trainers from Eco Tirana in each of the pilot points. I wish Eco Tirana a lot of success because it has brought an innovation in the cleaning of our streets and squares, especially starting from the area around the Small Ring, then with the area of Bllok and eventually everywhere else “, Veliaj.
The Italian Ambassador in Tirana, Fabrizio Bucci estimated that the new technology in waste collection will have a significant impact on reducing the level of pollution in the capital. “It’s a partnership that works very well. We do not see what we have done, but towards what we want to do; think about what we will do tomorrow. “Tirana is investing in these containers of a new technology, which will reduce environmental pollution and will serve to improve the efficiency of garbage collection”, added Ambassador Bucci.
The administrator of Eco Tirana, Diego Testi said that this innovation in waste collection technology in the city does not exist even in Verona or Vicenza.
