The AFP network wrote today that thousands of migratory birds were missing this year at their annual stop in Divjaka National Park.
While overseeing Dalmatian pelicans and pink flamingos, park director Ardian Koci says “about 9,000 birds are missing compared to last year”.
“We have found that about 9,000 waterfowl are missing compared to last year,” Koci said, adding that about 25,000 migratory birds were counted this year.
In 2021, according to him, there were 34,000 birds that arrived this season in the Divjaka lagoon, which is one of the favorite places of migratory birds in Albania.
Even the bird expert Mirjan Topi said that some bird species such as gray herons were missing this year, for reasons such as urbanization, overfishing and other factors.
Nexhip Hysolokaj, another expert says that a decrease in the number of migratory birds in Albania has been observed for several years.
Some scientists cite the above factors for the phenomenon while others point out that birds can migrate to other regions.
