Alvarez suffered a fractured condition while competing in the World Cup in Budapest, but her coach, Andrea Fuentes, jumped into the water in time to escape immediately.
“It was a great fear. “I had to jump because the beach guards were not doing it.” said the coach after the event.
Fuentes, dived to the bottom of the pool and dragged Alvarez to the surface before helping to bring the swimmer to the edge of the pool.
“I was scared because I saw that she was not breathing, but now she is doing very well.”said Fuentes.
Alvarez was sent on a stretcher to the pool medical center, while fans were shocked by the event.
The U.S. swimming team later issued a statement saying it is doing very well.
