The week started with bad news for the Democratic Party. 7 years after full membership in the largest European political group, she lost her right to vote to elect the new leaders of the European People’s Party.
From all the delegations with the right to vote, it was noticed that the Democratic Party, although it enjoys the status of a member, is not represented by any delegate, marking the first precedent since the day of its membership in this European group.
Top Channel learns that the European People’s Parties are not indifferent and have discussed the crisis that the largest opposition party in Albania is experiencing in the session held without media. But the EPPs are unclear on the official representation of the Democratic Party and therefore do not yet have a final decision as long as the issue has not been finally resolved by the Albanian courts.
Despite the lack of an official invitation from the European People’s Party, 3 Democrat MPs traveled to Rotterdam: Jorida Tabaku as part of the delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Albana Vokshi as part of the delegation of the European Women’s Group and Belind Këllici from the youth forum .
But it seems that the decision or discussion is being postponed at the moment when the court has not yet decided who owns the emblem and seal of the DP. PPE leaders will need to know the name of the person who will put them at the top of the letter. If the name of Sali Berisha is at the top of the letter, the punishment will fall on the entire DP. If the name in the head is Lulzim Basha or Alibeaj, life will continue normally and PPE will probably not need to make a decision.
At least this has been hinted at by the statements of Kirshbaum and McCallister of the largest group of the PPE, CDU and CSU, the DP’s biggest allies, in its most difficult days. ironically, the attitude towards the Berisha issue will put the DP in its most difficult moment, and even its friends on the European right cannot help it here.
