Today, PD deputies Dhurata Çupi, Enkelejd Alibeaj, Gazment Bardhi, Saimir Korreshi, Bledion Nallbati, Dashnor Sula, Greta Bardeli, Fatmir Mediu, have requested a hearing session with the High Judicial Council, the High Prosecution Council, the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Justice National Advocacy, the People’s Advocate and the Albanian Helsinki Committee.
Opposition MPs say that they have followed closely the discussions that followed the decision of 10.06.2022 of the High Judicial Council for the approval of the “New Judicial Map”.
Deputies have received numerous messages from various citizens expressing concern about the closure of courts in their cities. Particularly worrying remains the situation for residents who will have to travel for miles or hours to arrive at the competent court to adjudicate their cases.
According to the opposition MPs, the judicial reorganization is related to a fundamental right related to access to justice, guaranteed by Article 42 of the Constitution of Albania and Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
