Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has admitted that he made a mistake when he decided to be interviewed by a French journalist, even though he was infected with a coronavirus.
He has also admitted that a member of his staff made false statements to the Australian Government about his travel history.
The statement said that he did not travel anywhere in the last 14 days, before arriving in Australia, but he was also in Serbia, before leaving Spain.
However, Djokovic has insisted that other reports about his activities, after being infected with coronavirus, are “misinformation” and that “hurt a lot” his family, reports REL.
Djokovic made these statements on January 12 on Instagram, while addressing the situation in which he finds himself, before defending the title of champion in the Australian Open tennis tournament, although unvaccinated.
The 34-year-old tennis player entered Australia last week with a document showing that he was infected with coronavirus on December 16th.
A day later, he was seen without a mask at an event organized in Belgrade for young tennis players.
In his Instagram post, Djokovic did not mention the ceremony in Belgrade, but said he realized on December 17 that he was infected after attending the ceremony.
Djokovic said that on December 18 he canceled all plans, but decided to give an interview to the French newspaper, L’Equipe and take some pictures.
“I saw it as an obligation to continue with the interview, because I did not want to fail the journalist’s plans, but I kept my physical distance and I had a mask, even though I was photographed.”
On January 10, an Australian referee upheld a tennis visa, although it was denied to him last week, after the unvaccinated tennis player against the coronavirus was said to have violated Australian pandemic control regulations.
He obtained a medical document from the tennis organization in Australia, which enabled him to avoid restrictions on entering this state, after declaring that he was infected with coronavirus last month.
Australian Migration Minister Alex Hawke has warned he is considering exercising executive power to oust Djokovic.
