The head of the Parliamentary Group of the Socialist Party, Taulant Balla, told reporters this Wednesday that it would be a waste of time if the Constitutional Court addressed the Venice Commission for the decision to dismiss President Ilir Meta.
“My task is first to not forget that on January 18 the first session of the Constitutional Court takes place, where the first party is the assembly, the same majority that bears responsibility. I do not know when the Constitutional Court will rule on the decision. What we found in the final report of the Commission of Inquiry are facts and evidence that justify the dismissal. At the moment of dismissal, the assembly exercises its powers and follows the election of the president of the republic. No less than 20 firms can support one candidate. In mid-April, the normal procedure follows, in the case provided by the constitution. It is an extra procedure that enters the activity. The constitution stipulates that in the first three rounds the president is elected by a 3/5 majority of the assembly or by a simple majority, half +1. “We are early for the election of the new president”, said Balla.
“Venice’s valuable opinions have been helpful, but we agree that the opinion of Venice has come, it exists, the Constitutional Court has the necessary jurisprudence, it would be a waste of time, while what is more important is the decision-making of the Constitutional Court. It has a priority agenda, time has been available, it has been clear from day one. “The decision will be welcomed, whatever it may be, because the court represents the Constitution.”, according to Ballës.
