Demolition of houses on 5 May / DP submits request for urgent hearing to the Law Commission

Their request states that this session was called as an attempt to come to the aid of residents who have no response from any institution and who are currently under pressure from police to demolish houses.

The request was signed by MPs Gazment Bardhi, Enkelejd Alibeaj, Dhurata Çupi, Saimir Korreshi, Greta Bardeli, Dashnor Sula, Elda Hoti and Bledion Nallbati, noting the obligation of this commission to protect human rights, especially property rights. for the case of families in the 5 May area.

In addition to a representative from the residents, representatives from several institutions were also invited to the hearing:

1. The Mayor of Tirana, Erjon Veliaj;
2. Director of IMT at the Municipality of Tirana;
3. General Director of State Police, Gledis Nano;
4. People’s Advocate, Erinda Ballanca

DP deputies also demand the submission of complete documentation by the institutions on the project and the activity of the institutions on the property of the citizens.

In the early hours of Wednesday, the demolition of apartments in the area of ​​5 May in the capital as part of the reconstruction project was accompanied by clashes between police and residents. Today was the deadline set by the Municipality of Tirana for the release of the apartments, but some of the residents objected.

For one of the residents who refused to leave his apartment, it took the intervention of the police to remove him. Some others surrendered and started extracting household furniture and personal items.

The project for the new neighborhood of 5 May affects the residents of administrative units no. 4 and no. 8 who will receive full compensation, exchanging their apartment with a house in new buildings that will be built for the homeless from earthquake.

Until the moment they move into the new house, these residents will receive the rent bonus from the Municipality of Tirana.
