President Ilir Meta has addressed a request to the Special Appellate Panel to launch a disciplinary investigation into the members of the Constitutional Court who issued the “June 30” decision.
The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Albania, composed of President Vitore Tusha, members Elsa Toska, Marsida Xhaferllari, Altin Binaj, Përparim Kalo, Sonila Bejtja, Fiona Papajorgji and Secretary Enina Kotoni examined whether the local elections of June 30, 2019 were unconstitutional or not .
The President emphasizes that the Special Appellate Panel should initiate disciplinary proceedings in accordance with the requirements of the Constitution and the Law.
Through a document he has listed all the facts and circumstances that dictate the need to initiate disciplinary proceedings against members of the Constitutional Court.
If this is a massive phenomenon, according to the head of state, then disciplinary proceedings should be extended according to the requirements of the law to any judge involved in these professional and ethical violations.
The Constitutional Court upheld the legitimacy of the June 30 elections by rejecting the request of the Association of Municipalities that sought to declare these elections unconstitutional.
According to the Court, there was a parallel opinion on this decision by member Sonila Bejtja.
Meta challenged the decision of the Constitutional Court for the local elections of June 30, 2019 and set the date of March 6 for holding by-elections in the six municipalities without a mayor.
Municipalities without a mayor are: Shkodra, after Valdrin Peter was captured by decriminalization; Vora, after Agim Kajmaku was burned by decriminalization; DurrësI, because Valbona Sako resigned after the tragic earthquake of November 26; Rrogozhina, because Haxhi Memolla passed away; Dibra, because Dionis Ymeri resigned to run for MP and Lushnja, because Fatos Tushe was fired by Prime Minister Edi Rama after being arrested for corruption.
