The leader of the Democratic Party was the third in a row to climb the main podium of the Palace of Congresses in Tirana to swear this Saturday that in the political entity he leads there will be no more people who shame the Albanian society.
Lulzim Basha was greeted with applause by his supporters and delegates, who addressed the hall, after verifications. Basha thanked all the guests present and the speakers at the National Assembly.
For him, this Assembly is decisive for the Albania of tomorrow.
“We are the Democratic Party of Albania, 31 years, with successes and failures“, He said.
According to him, Democrats have not gathered today to slap each other, nor the president.
“We are gathered to tell truths which we have time without uttering“, He said.
The leader of the Democrats said that the conflict with Sali Berisha has cost the Democrats dearly.
“Today, the conflict that Sali Berisha has had and is deepening day by day is more visible in the eyes of everyone and there is no dilemma. There is no longer any doubt that all this has cost us a lot. It has cost a lot to the Democratic Party and every member and voter“, He said.
The National Assembly on December 18 is expected to vote on Saturday the expulsion from the leading functions in the Democratic Party of persons declared non grata by the USA and the support of the initiative for the decommunization of all state and public institutions.
“Declaration non grata by the government of the United States of America is incompatible with any leading position in the Democratic Party“.
“In its decision, the Democratic Party argues that seeing the future of the country at a crossroads and its future threatened by the echoes of the past, by a revanchist spirit that seeks to delegitimize and destroy the opposition by influxes with inspiration and anti-democratic ideas and against the identity values of pro-Americanism and pro-Europeanism”.
The approval of this proposal automatically removes Sali Berisha from the two highest governing bodies, the Assembly and the National Council, and the only point that keeps the former right-wing leader connected with Basha’s DP is the membership card he holds from the day he founded the party.
The chairman of the Assembly Committee convened by the official leadership of the Democrats, Jemin Gjana, on Saturday, December 18, announced the approval of the decision to leave out of the central structures of the Democratic Party, persons declared non grata.
Also, the Democratic delegates have declared “null” the decisions taken during the Assembly of the former leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, on December 11.
During Berisha’s Assembly, the summoned delegates dismissed the DP deputy chairmen as well as the Secretary General. They also decided that, on December 18, a Referendum be held for the dismissal of the leader of the Democrats, Lulzim Basha.
Gjana said that “we have the vast majority of delegates”, emphasizing the number of 5 thousand and 4 delegates.
“The Assembly has a total of 7600 delegates. According to the presence signed by each of them, 5004 delegates are present in the National Assembly“, He said.
The member of this Commission, Enkeled Alibeaj proposed that in the statute of the Democratic Party to be added two provisions which are dedicated to the creation of a new organizational structure named as the civic alliance for democracy.
“After Article 58 of the statute, Article 58/1 is added with the following content: Civic Alliance for Democracy. In addition to the partner organizations of Article 58, such the Party also has the civic alliance for democracy. This partner organization consists of intellectuals with a professional reputation or outstanding contribution to society who show interest and share the values and principles of the Democratic Party. Party membership is not a condition for the Civic Alliance for Democracy“, Said Alibeaj.
Meanwhile, just moments ago, the former founder of this party and former Minister of Agriculture in Berisha’s time, Recep Uka, recalled the time when Mikhail Gorbachev tried to make a second era in Russia, but failed.
This was a clear message for the former leader Berisha.
Earlier, the Assembly started playing the National Anthem and the floor was given to Ina Zhupa, the spokesperson of the Democratic Party.
She described the participation as “extraordinary” and announced the composition of the structure of the Committee of this Assembly, which will direct the work.
Its chairman will be Jemin Gjana, while members are MPs Gazment Bardhi, Grida Duma, Enkelejd Alibeaj and Flutura Açka.
The agenda concerns decision-making on the political situation, as well as taking measures to protect the interest of the Democratic Party.
This by not allowing “problems or personal interests of each member to harm the electoral and political interests of the DP, and its political agenda in confronting the regime of Edi Rama.”
Also a key point is the approval of political action for the future of the Democratic Party and the proclamation of the Civic Platform for Democracy.
In the end, the approval of the organizational program of the Democratic Party is expected to prepare the structure of the party for the next elections.
Meanwhile, all Basha supporters are positioned outside the Palace.
They hold in their hands a banner that reads “they choose the future”.
