Damascus International Airport was closed today for the second day in a row for repairs, following airstrikes by Israeli planes.
The Syrian Ministry of Transport said the runway had suffered serious damage, which was being repaired by civil aviation personnel and companies.
The Israeli bombings also injured a civilian, the state-run Sanaa news agency reported.
Friday morning’s attacks hit weapons depots belonging to pro-government militants and wounded an unspecified number of people, British war monitoring groups said.
The Israeli group ISI identified three separate areas where it claimed significant damage had been caused by attacks “on both civilian and military runways”.
Damascus Airport is in the southern part of the capital where groups of Iranian-backed militants such as the Lebanese Hezbollah operate, according to Israel.
The area near the airport has been a favorite target for Israel with at least 15 airstrikes by missiles or aircraft carried out this year alone.
