The Cycling Academy, in the southern area near the pedestrian area of the Lake Park, will be the newest recreational point in Tirana. It is conceived as a multifunctional park, with a bike path and large toy modules, such as the Clock Tower and the Tabakëve Bridge, while another space that adds value to the park is the labyrinth created with vegetation.
The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, inspected the works for the rehabilitation of the largest park with a focus on children and youth, on the 102nd anniversary of the proclamation of Tirana as the Capital. He said that finally this part of the park, which until yesterday was occupied by informal constructions, is returning to the public, not only as a space, but as a real educational and amusement park.
“On the 102nd anniversary of the proclamation of Tirana as the capital, we are preparing a fantastic surprise for the children of the city. Tirana was born as the Capital by chance, – at that time the government needed a temporary station, which later turned into a permanent station, – but, today we are not products of chance. We are products of work, of union, of love, of persistence with passion, to move things forward. Even this park, in the southern part of Lake Tirana, is the product of the persistence of the majority that gains over an occupying minority. “Most people deserve to have public spaces beyond that of the strong transition that occupied the lake”, said Veliaj.
Bringing to attention the situation created in the area of ”5 May”, which as in “Astir” is hindering the great project of national reconstruction, Veliaj gave the message that the years of transition are over.
With what we have done here, on the shore of the Lake or on the Dry Lake, we have given a clear message about the history of “Astiri” and “5 May”: for the people who build on the lake, the years of transition are over. No one can stop the progress! As long as it treats people with respect, compensating them, whether for square meters or the value of that building, progress will not stop. “Even here at the Lake, we have given the ideal example of what it means to free half of the Park to return it to the city and the children,” Veliaj underlined.
He noted the fact that various angles are being built in the Lake Park, which serve the children of some units in the capital.
“Today, Lake Tirana Park serves several units. The first toy corner, for which we made that big fight, serves mainly Unit 5. The “Tika” corner, serves mainly the Sauk area and Unit 2. Meanwhile, the Zoo, or even the whole space that is being created here , mainly serves the Dry Lake area and the Botanical Garden area. In virtually every corner of the lake the lake is serving a community with which it is surrounded. I can not wait that in the spring, as the weather warms up, the children will have a space where they can learn to ride a bike, they will certainly learn a little more history from Tirana, ”said Veliaj.
The academy is conceived as a multifunctional park, with a bicycle lane paved with red asphalt, which is surrounded by a roundabout and a one-way street. Signs will be placed all along the road, enabling children to become familiar with road signs.
The Cycling Academy in the Great Lake Park, one of the most important projects for 2022, is conceived not only to serve the improvement and increase of recreational opportunities in the park, in accordance with the needs of the community for more opportunities for sports activities, educational, social, entertainment, active and healthy, but also to evoke Tirana and the emblems of the capital. The project meets the needs of all age groups of the community, including bicycle track, children’s toy modules, passive recreation for adults.
