Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo’s favorite domestic cat, which cost at least $ 3,000, has been hit by a car outside his home in Italy as recently reported, and has already been sent to rehab with his girlfriend’s family in Spain.
The Sphynx hairless cat, named Pepe, is believed to have taken the name of Ronaldo’s former teammate during his time at Real Madrid, and with the Portuguese national team.
Ronaldo’s girlfriend, Georgina Rodriguez, 27, decided to take the cat to her home by private jet, to take care of her in Spain.
The stuffed cat has been known before in the couple’s photos on Instagram, after it became part of the family two years ago.
She has accompanied the family on some luxury vacations and the 36-year-old Juventus striker has posted some videos playing with her.
As for Ms. Rodriguez, last year she spread rumors about a possible pregnancy when she posted some photos with the cat tucked under her blouse as Ronaldo kissed her as if she were a bloated baby.
Rodriguez was the one who announced the accident in an interview with the Spanish magazine Instyle: “Pepe caused us a horror. He had left home and was hit by a car. He was near death and remained in intensive veterinary care for a month and a half. “My sister Ivana is taking care of him and he is already recovering.”
Rodriguez introduced the family’s new pet to its 23 million fans on Instagram in November 2018 with a photo of him holding it in his lap: ‘Pepe wishes you a good day.’
Sphynx cats are expensive as they are purebred and difficult to find. Although their name sounds like Egyptian, they originated in Canada, where in the 1960s a hairless mutant kitten named Prune was born, from a herd of normal cats.
But critics say these cats have alien appearance and do not even deserve to be called such.
