Iran has reported an increase in the number of official executions and mutilations of the fingers, the latter for crimes such as petty theft.
According to the local sentencing system, prisoners sentenced to death hang in public from high cranes, and even electric shock torture and whipping are reported.
Recent figures show that Iran has carried out about 250 executions a year, a significant portion in public, where prisoners have suffered a slow death by swinging in the air.
Some right-wing groups report that the use of guillotines to cut off the fingers of prisoners has become more frequent, even in some cases in public.
Iran is estimated to be second only to China in the number of executions worldwide, although it has a much smaller population.
Torture is also widespread in Iranian prisons, where electric shocks, floggings, drownings, and even sexual violence against prisoners have reportedly been used, according to some human rights groups.
One of the victims told Amnesty International: “Electric shock is one of the most serious forms of torture. I felt like my whole body was being pierced by millions of needles. I refused to answer their questions and they each time raised the voltage to make the shock even stronger. I was shaking violently and had a strong burning sensation that ran through my whole body. ”
A woman sentenced to death, Zahra Ismaili, reportedly suffered a heart attack when she was forced to look at 16 men hanging in front of her.
