Over 4,000 flights have been canceled worldwide from Christmas Eve to Christmas Day due to the pandemic, particularly due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant, causing concern for tens of thousands of passengers.
According to the specialized website “Flightaware”, more than a quarter of these cancellations are related to the USA, between domestic and international connections, with some companies that have to deal with quarantine isolation of on-board personnel or ground operations.
The most involved companies have been Delta, United Airlines and American Airlines. Australia was particularly affected by the unrest, with over 100 canceled trips to Sydney and Melbourne.
