The Italian government today blocked the export of a shipment of coronavirus vaccines to Australia from Oxford-AstraZeneca, local media reported.
The decision concerns 250,000 doses of the vaccine produced by the AstraZeneca plant in Italy, and is believed to have been supported by the European Commission.
The news comes at a time of retorts between EU officials and the manufacturing company, which has yet to produce the measure required by member states.
Under the European vaccine scheme, set last June, the union has negotiated the purchase of vaccines on behalf of all member states.
In January, former Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte described vaccine delays by the pharmaceutical groups AstraZeneca and Pfizer as unacceptable, accusing them of violating the terms of the contract.
