After 12 years of success stories with exports, mainly to the United States, for the first time, aromatic-medicinal plant farmers are on the verge of bankruptcy.
The reason is the sudden rise in prices as a result of the war in Ukraine. They say the cost of production is higher than the annual profit.
But despite the increase in production costs, the price of farmers’ products has fallen and according to agriculture specialist Agim Rama, this leads to direct bankruptcy.
4 thousand farmers of Malësia e Madhe, produce about 90% of aromatic-medicinal plants in the country and export them mainly to the United States of America.
