Fear of coronavirus has not yet faded in Germany, where the expert council for Covid 19 concluded that federations and states should prepare for the fight against a possible new wave of infection, although the development of the disease can not be accurately predicted.
“A far-sighted preparation is needed with the possibility of reacting as soon as possible, for the expected increase of cases and the change of the state of infection in autumn and winter”, said in a statement of this forum.
The report was presented in Berlin, with the idea that no matter how the situation develops, there must be a willingness to take protective measures against the infection. The expert council mentions three possible scenarios for next fall and winter.
In a “basic model” is assumed to increase the number of patients with the infection. In case of a negative scenario the gaps with vaccination in the population and the decline of immunity over time may coincide with more dangerous variants of coronavirizers and thus even the vaccinated can fully cope with the severe course of the disease.
In the most favorable scenario, a new variant of the virus may be less dangerous, so protection measures against the infection “would no longer be necessary for everyone, but perhaps only for those at risk.”
Experts point out, however, that the further development of the SARS-CoV-2-Virus virus cannot be convincingly predicted.
