Two former subordinates of Thoma Gëllçi, Julain Tapia and Ervin Murja have been released from the cell.
Their defense lawyers have addressed the court with a request to terminate the security measure because after calculating the detention, they have completed the sentence. The request was reviewed by Judge Erjon Çela.
The two members of the Bid Evaluation Commission, Julian Tapia, Ervin Muraj were sentenced to 1 year in prison each, for the accusation of “Violation of equality in tenders”. The violation refers to a tender of 2018 with a fund of 86 million ALL, in order to purchase equipment for the RTSH Agro channel, where members of the Bid Evaluation Commission are accused of violating the equality in the tender.
The investigation has also shown that Thoma Gëllçi as the former General Director of the Albanian Radio and Television has committed legal violations in this procurement procedure and is accused of abuse of office. For this accusation, on June 2, the Special Court for Corruption and Organized Crime decided to sentence, finding guilty the former director of the Albanian Radio and Television, Thoma Gëllçi, sentencing him to 2 years in prison. On appeal, Gëllç’s sentence was reduced to 1 year and 4 months in prison. Taking into account the detention, the former director of VAT, Gëllçi, is expected to complete his sentence in September.
