Colombia celebrated 212 years of national independence today with a military parade of more than 11,000 men and women of the armed forces in the capital Bogota.
The traditional parade comes after a two-year hiatus, and the citizens expressed their satisfaction for the liberation brought by the gathering of solidarity.
“Today we celebrate 212 years of independence and as Colombians we need more honesty and more respect”, said citizen Yisel Insignares, for the French network AFP.
Even Mayerly Rojas supported the parade, saying that such performances are good for maintaining faith.
“Amidst the uncertainty and fear we have about the expected changes in politics, we need to celebrate, to maintain faith,” he said.
“After the difficulties we have gone through, we have a good emotion, a warming of the heart. Our army, institutionally, is a symbol of Colombia’s freedom and independence, it testifies to our democracy”, said participant Eduardo Bernal, writes AFP.
