The Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure in Kosovo, Liburn Aliu presented the project for the construction of the railway Prishtina – Durres, which according to him will turn Kosovo into an important point of transit of goods in the region.
He explained that in the budget for 2022 for the first phase of this project, or feasibility study, 1 million euros have been allocated.
“I can say that this project is getting its way and we are in stages where we can already start drafting a precise management plan, which will be completed soon and will give us clear both in terms of time and financial of the realization of this project”.
Aliu added that the three pan-European railway corridors operating in the region; the 8th, 10th corridors and the Blue Adriatic corridor bypass Kosovo.
But, with the construction of the Pristina – Durres railway, Kosovo could become an important connecting point between these corridors.
According to him, one of the three variants of where the route of this railway will pass is the corridor through the Drini Valley, which connects Shkodra with Gjakova and then Prishtina.
The agreement on the railway line was signed during the meeting of Prime Minister Edi Rama with the Chief Executive of Kosovo, Albin Kurti at the end of November in Tirana, the seventh annual meeting between the governments of the two countries.
