The suspected driver who crashed his car today among passers-by in a shopping center in the German capital Berlin was filmed as he “called for help” when he was arrested by the police.
His car has killed a teacher, six people are in critical condition while 12 others, who were students, have received serious injuries from the attack on Berlin’s main square.
The silver Renault Clio went up the sidewalk at Breitscheidplatz just before 10.30am
Videos taken after the tragic event showed the suspected driver being escorted by police.
The picture showed a man in a yellow T-shirt, wearing a set of blue overalls and sneakers.
Before getting into the civilian police car, he is seen shouting in German: “Help me! Help me!”
While the passer-by who is filming answers to himself: “What help do you need, you have just killed people, idiot.”
Berlin police confirmed that they had arrested a 29-year-old German-Armenian living in Berlin.
More than 100 emergency vehicles arrived to help with the incident, said Berlin Mayor Franziska Giffey.
“I am very touched by this incident. We know there is one dead and several seriously injured. “Police are working to clarify the situation,” Giffey said.
The daily BILD reported that the suspect with the initials Gor H, had left a ‘confession letter’ in the car.
It is not yet completely clear whether the man had deliberately driven the car towards people.
An investigator told BILD: “Certainly not an accident – he is a cold-blooded killer.”
After the collision, the driver is believed to have run away before brave passers-by stopped him and escorted him to the police.
