Former prime minister Sali Berisha considered the head of the Albanian government, Edi Ramë, an enemy, during his speech at the protest podium in front of the Prime Minister’s building.
“Edi Rama, we are both enemies, it’s hard to say this, but my heart doesn’t say anything else. You only want power, while I, with these men, women, boys and girls, have as a principle freedom and only freedom. We are enemies, Edi Rama, because you want power to enrich yourself by impoverishing and humiliating the citizens, while I and these protesters here want freedom to make Albanians free, to return their dignity”said Berisha.
According to Top Channel journalist Elda Menga, who followed the protest, Berisha warned that it is only the beginning and that he wanted to prove to the democrats who do not support him that he is ready to protest even at an inconvenient time.
“Berisha warned that it is only the beginning, a test for Berisha, he wanted to prove to the democrats who do not support him that he is ready to protest even during the summer, at an inconvenient time. He wanted that he has the primacy of the opposition, in which he also invited Meta to participate. He had a test, it was a surprise protest by Berisha, after he had spoken to him about protests in September, not in July”Menga said.
The opposition protest started around 19:00 this Thursday on the boulevard “Dëshmorët e Kombit” with the former prime minister, Sali Berisha, at the head.
At the beginning of the protest with the motto “Albania in Danger”, the ‘anthem’ dedicated to this gathering was held, while various activists gave their speeches on the podium, to leave the turn to the political figures.
The citizens gathered in the protest had banners against the government in their hands, while the chorus chanted ‘We love Albania like all of Europe’. Rama Go!”
The head of LSI Monika Kryemadhi was seen at Berisha’s side, who also gave a speech on the podium, expressing her support for him.
So a significant number of effectives were on the ground for the progress of the protest, while in the prime minister’s building, the doors were armored, as in every protest, in case of violence by the protesters.
It was a peaceful protest by Berisha, compared to other protests organized by him, where there was no lack of violence.
Who did not participate in the protest?
Supporters of the Basha front, such as Enkelejd Alibeaj, Gazment Bardhi or Lulzim Basha, did not participate in the protest. Part of today’s rally were deputies who have expressed their support for Alibeaj, such as Alfred Rrushaj. Xelal Mziu and Jorida Tabaku.
Dhuratat Çupi, who until recently, was in the Alibeaj camp, was also part of it. The participation of Grida Duma and Ervin Salianji was not a surprise.
Deputy Fatmir Mediu, who is pro-Berisha, was absent from the protest, but in a communication with journalist Elda Menga, he said that he is on an official visit to Bucharest.
Agron Duka was also part of the protest. Nard Ndoka, Dashamir Shehi, who have preferred to stay in neutral positions and not be part of the speeches.
A few minutes before the protest, the US ambassador in Tirana, Yuri Kim, gave a message saying that it is the right of citizens to protest, but according to her, the gathering should be peaceful and the law should be enforced.
“It is the right of all citizens to protest, it is important to apply the law and the protest to be peaceful“, said Kim.
The rally called by Sali Berisha led the American Embassy to ask citizens to be careful and stay away from the area where the protest is held, as it can be violent.
