Former prime minister Sali Berisha considered the head of the Albanian government, Edi Ramë, an enemy, during his speech at the protest podium in front of the Prime Minister’s building.
“Edi Rama, we are both enemies, it’s hard to say this, but my heart doesn’t say anything else. You only want power, while I, with these men, women, boys and girls, have as a principle freedom and only freedom. We are enemies, Edi Rama, because you want power to enrich yourself by impoverishing and humiliating the citizens, while I and these protesters here want freedom to make Albanians free, to return their dignity”said Berisha.
The opposition protest started around 19:00 this Thursday on the boulevard “Dëshmorët e Kombit” with the former prime minister, Sali Berisha, at the head.
At the beginning of the protest with the motto “Albania in Danger”, the ‘anthem’ dedicated to this gathering was held, while various activists gave their speeches on the podium, to leave the turn to the political figures.
The citizens gathered in the protest had banners against the government in their hands, while the chorus chanted ‘We love Albania like all of Europe’. Rama Go!”
The head of LSI Monika Kryemadhi was seen at Berisha’s side, who also gave a speech on the podium, expressing her support for him.
So a significant number of effectives were on the ground for the progress of the protest, while in the prime minister’s building, the doors were armored, as in every protest, in case of violence by the protesters.
A few minutes before the protest, the US ambassador in Tirana, Yuri Kim, gave a message saying that it is the right of citizens to protest, but according to her, the gathering should be peaceful and the law should be enforced.
“It is the right of all citizens to protest, it is important to apply the law and the protest to be peaceful“, said Kim.
The rally called by Sali Berisha led the American Embassy to ask citizens to be careful and stay away from the area where the protest is held, as it can be violent.
