With the increase in the number of cases of COVID-19, a new testing center has been opened in the Municipality of Pristina.
According to the Director of Health, Izet Sadiku, this new center was opened after the interest of a large number of citizens for testing.
While with the increase in the number of infected, the number of staff working for services with COVID-19 has also increased. According to the director of health, the interest in the fourth dose is greater, compared to the other doses.
He says that there should be more sensitization campaigns to be vaccinated by central institutions.
“I visited the Family Medicine Center in “Xhemail Ibish”, where it is open and today we started at 8:00, it is the second center for testing in the Municipality of Pristina. There was interest from the citizens, this was the reason why we opened a second center, considering that in the last few days we have an average of over 300 citizens who have been tested at the testing center at the family medicine clinic in the center of students. We decided to create a greater opportunity, taking into account the wide extent of the city, to create an opportunity for a part of the citizens to be closer,” he said.
According to him, with the increase in the number of infected, the volume of work has also increased. Currently, out of 63 health workers, 27 have tested positive and are in isolation.
“Of course yes… The staff who were supporters of vaccination and COVID has left, and now with the increase in the number we had to send a part of the staff for services for COVID, in addition to the vaccination that is done, then also the testing now that we increased the staff who did testing. We also have our doctors, the nurses who are engaged in the Family Medicine Center, are already busy, in addition to routine visits, they have a number of patients for 20 or 30% of the patients who make visits are now suspicious persons or with COVID- 19. This has increased the volume of work of health workers, in fact when we add to this the period that we are in a summer period, where people are forced to finish their vacations because the health workers have been without vacations for two years. There is also a number of staff who are infected and are isolated, currently we have 27 health workers who are in isolation because they have tested positive for COVID-19, out of the 63 we have had in recent months. And all these make it difficult to work in providing services, considering that we continue to provide other services, which are provided by Family Medicine Centers in Pristina”, he said.
He said that the interest in the fourth dose is greater, compared to the other doses, but low compared to the population in the country.
“The interest for the fourth dose is more than for the other doses, but it is still small. On average, for the last week, we have about 30 doses per day that are taken in Pristina, and this is a very small number, considering that 45% of the population is vaccinated”, he said.
Furthermore, Sadiku added that vaccination is the best way to prevent or control the COVID-19 pandemic, while asking the central institutions to do more awareness campaigns to convince citizens to get vaccinated.
“Citizens should be vaccinated because vaccination has changed the situation with COVID-19… 3:53 The only measure to bring the COVID-19 pandemic under control would be to vaccinate citizens, so I think people should be appealed to and then awareness campaigns, which invite and convince citizens to get vaccinated,” he said. /E.Krasniqi/Kosovapress
