China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has announced that the Chinese Red Cross will provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
While calling for the resumption of diplomatic talks, he stressed that China’s friendship with Russia is “strong” and the prospects for cooperation are very broad.
Yi’s reaction comes shortly after Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison urged China to denounce Russia.
“It’s up to China, at this key point in history, to show that these are more than just words. “No country would have a greater impact on Russia than China,” Morrison said.
The Chinese government, 12 days after the start of the Russian attacks on Ukraine, has neither condemned nor forgiven Russia’s war against Ukraine.
