China started the machine created to produce unlimited energy, otherwise known as the “artificial sun”, seeking to make it even hotter than the real sun.
The tests have started at the Hefei research center with the aim of achieving an even higher temperature and longer duration of action.
The device is considered to be about 7 times warmer than the sun; expert efforts are now focused on making it more sustainable.
Created and developed by the Chinese, EAST has been used since 2006 by scientists around the globe for fusion-related experiments.
Meanwhile, it took the work of more than 10,000 Chinese and foreign researchers to bring the artificial sun to life.
Reuters says EAST reaches extreme temperatures to convert hydrogen isotopes into plasma, melting them and releasing energy.
China has spent nearly 1 701 million on this project. The energy generated produces almost no radioactive waste and requires only small amounts of fuel.
