Strong reactions on social networks have caused the event that took place on Saturday morning at the Attica Zoo where its employees have killed a chimpanzee that could have gone beyond the walls of the park endangering visitors.
It is the largest of the 9 chimpanzees of the Attica Zoological Park, aged 27 years and about 1.60 meters high. He managed to cross the high voltage protective wires of electricity and the water gap and came out of the park.
At least 20 people from the park staff were immediately mobilized in an attempt to catch him, while the chimpanzee was climbed on a three-meter high pole. It was also ordered by the speakers that all visitors who were at that moment in the parking lot, get into the cars and stay inside them.
Eventually, the guards could not catch the chimpanzee and the decision was made to kill it. One of the officials of the Attica Zoo, Jean-Jacques Lesouard, explained that they could not inject anesthesia, because due to the condition it would take 15 minutes for the medicine to work, a time when the animal could attack one of the visitors.
But on social media, no one has agreed to kill the monkey, commenting that these animals are not only kept locked up, but also that when they try to gain freedom, they kill them. There has even been a call for a protest rally on Sunday evening, demanding the closure of zoos.
