The deputy mayor of the besieged Ukrainian city of Mariupol says people are starting to starve to death as food and water supplies are scarce.
This situation has worsened as humanitarian aid is not allowed to enter.
“Some are dying of dehydration and malnutrition. “Some are dying from a lack of medicine, insulin se Because people can not get medical help,” Sergey Orlov told the BBC.
“Some mothers do not have milk and do not have food for their children. What should they do with their babies? “There is no food for children in the city,” he added.
Mariupol has been under relentless Russian attack since the early days of the war. Orlov said 70% of the city’s hospitals had been destroyed by Russian bombing.
More than 100,000 people are trapped in Mariupol. Evacuation efforts have failed, although thousands of people have managed to leave in recent days by private vehicles.
