This is shown by a recent study with about 800 children and adults surveyed, conducted nationally, by the Center for the Rights of the Child in Albania.
“One of the conclusions of our study, the first of its kind in the country, is that our communities are not willing to protect children from violence. Children have very little information about both sexual violence and its reporting. “And secondly, children prefer to talk more often and more directly with their friends, they prefer to talk to a trusted person, but who is not family.”says Altin Hazizaj from the Center for the Rights of the Child in Albania.
“We never know who the real people in this neighborhood are in this palace, in this community where we live, in this school or kindergarten where we take our children. All of us who live in a palace, in a neighborhood, we all have, eyes and ears. We look at cases of violence against children, women, domestic violence, in the community, cases of bullying. As we can see even foreign people, coming to our communities. If we were to watch children go to a neighbor all the time and that neighbor is a man or even a lonely woman, the question that would be asked in the community is what do these people who go to this gentleman or lady do. All these events take place in our eyes. “It depends on how careful we are to see and report.” says Hazizaj.
Most adults prefer and say that if I see something suspicious, I would first talk to my family, maybe even the affected family, but to take the matter to the police, which is part of the community, is the thing the last that comes to mind.
