Prices of chemical fertilizers used in agriculture have risen and are hitting farmers.
The concern was raised by the socialist MP Erion Braçe who called the Minister of Agriculture Frida Krifca to interpellation. According to Brace, more than fluctuations in international markets, their increase is related to abuses in the domestic market.
“Everything in this market is focused. It is normal that as long as we depend on imports of chemical fertilizers, prices will increase in the domestic markets as well. What we are looking for are market prices. Although the law gives freedom to this market, the guidelines restrict freedom by recognizing exclusivity. The value chain is not going well and is only enriching a few controllers in the domestic market. “Tomorrow the collectors are closing the market with high prices, of course the producers will throw away the products.” In response, Minister Krifca said that the department she heads has limited the possibility of intervening in the markets, but added that the government will continue to support farmers.
“Our analysis of agricultural input prices globally directly follows changes in fuel prices. “The Ministry of Agriculture has limited space to intervene in the markets and we do not even have the mechanisms to do so.” Krifca
In addition to the increase in the price of chemical fertilizers, according to Brace, another problem for farmers is the collectors of agricultural products that according to him have occupied the market, but also changes in the VAT law with the expansion of the farmers’ reimbursement scheme.
