One of Vladimir Putin’s powerful regional leaders has suggested that Russia threaten nuclear weapons against the West if foreign fighters are involved in the Ukraine conflict.
Ramzan Kadyrov, head of the Russian autonomous region of Chechnya whose elite troops have fought in brutal clashes in Kiev and Mariupol, is reportedly allowed to lead the region as “his personal empire” in exchange for loyalty to the Russian president, writes the British Metro.co .uk
In a new video from his palace in Chechnya, Kadyrov tells the camera: “What would I do? “I would immediately clear Luhansk and Donetsk, and from there I would move on.”
“If I were you, I would say, if foreign mercenaries come to Ukraine, we will strike with tactical nuclear weapons. “So that they do not make fun of us.”
“NATO, the West are at war with us, this is not a joke.”
Kadyrov insisted that Russia would take the capital Kiev even though the offensive is already focused on the eastern Donbas region.
He added: “The tasks are clear, there will be offensives not only in Mariupol but also in other cities to liberate Luhansk and Donetsk first.
“This is the goal set by Commander Vladimir Putin. There’s no going back. “There have been confusing comments, as sometimes happens in war strategy,” he said.
