The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control has said that the number of cases of acute hepatitis in children who have previously been healthy in the European Economic Area is increasing.
As of April 20, 111 cases had been registered in Britain and as of April 27, about 55 more cases had been reported in the 12 countries of the European Economic Area.
New cases have also been reported in the United States, Israel and Japan.
Most of the patients have recovered, but for some they had to have a liver transplant.
The head of the European regulator, Andrea Ammon, said during the week that the exact number of cases with hepatitis is not yet known.
The WHO confirmed earlier that at least one death had been reported in connection with the outbreak of the mysterious liver disease.
At the moment, the main hypotheses are those of an inflammation caused as a result of a previous infection with Sars Cov 2 or by an adenovirus, and this is where the verifications are currently focused.
