Renowned American rapper Cardi B will pay the funeral expenses for the 17 victims who lost their lives in the recent fire in New York.
New York Mayor Eric Adams announced today that Grammy Award winner provided financial assistance to fire victims in the Bronx, where she grew up, reports the AP.
Most of the victims are from the Gambia and the families planned to bury them in their homeland in West Africa, so Cardi B undertook to pay the costs of repatriating the bodies, the mayor’s office announced.
“I am extremely proud to be from the Bronx. I have many family members and friends who still live and work there. “When I heard about the fire and all the victims, I realized I had to do something and help,” said Cardi B.
New York authorities said earlier that the fire in the Bronx building on January 9 was the deadliest in the last three decades and that it was caused by a malfunction in the heating system.
