Cameroonian baker Guy-Marcel Nganta has used sweet potatoes, cassava roots and cornmeal for years for his modest clientele.
Locals have already found themselves in a new wave of price increases since the war crisis in Ukraine.
“Now we are making sweet potato bread. It is enriched with some vegetables to provide more nutrition to people. ”
“Here we have potato bread, cassava bread, cornbread, and cassava bread enriched with vegetables, with ingredients all grown here in Cameroon,” says the baker.
His local clients appreciate Nganta’s efforts, at a time of serious economic hardship.
“The taste of the bread is different, but it is made with ingredients from Cameroon. They are all natural ingredients and when you eat them, they fill your stomach more “, says the local Lewis Ateba
Buyer Madeline Nget added: “We are suffering here. Our country has everything and yet we suffer for food. “Cameroon is rich but everything we buy strangely disappears.”
“Look at this, is a loaf of bread worth 150 francs ($ 0.25)?” No, no, that’s too much. “We are angry.”
