Cambodia today celebrated the Khmer New Year which marks the end of the harvest season in traditional local culture.
The beloved event for locals working mainly in the rice fields, had not been held for two years for fear of infections.
“I am happy that we can have the traditional celebrations to mark the Khmer New Year,” said local Kai Davi.
“Now that the temples have reopened to hold the ceremonies we feel happy because they can not forget the traditions of our culture,” she added.
Residents in ornamental costumes were seen dancing while others performed blessing rituals on the Sand Mountain.
Another participant said: “I thank the government for allowing us the Khmer celebrations this year, because there are a lot of people who enjoy them.”
“On this special day we have fun dancing, throwing dust at each other and hitting the pots,” added the participant.
