The border between Ukraine and Russia is in the throes of tensions and the risk of a possible war, but in other Ukrainian cities, activities and work continue normally.
A port city of Mariupol, in eastern Ukraine, citizens quietly buy food. Although located on its own, 50 kilometers from the border with Russia, in supermarkets and shops, residents make purchases and there is no panic or long queues, reports the BBC.
The 74-year-old, identified as Tatiana, who is carefully choosing the right bacon, is convinced that the Russians will not invade the country.
Eastern Ukraine has been a battleground for the past eight years. Kremlin-backed separatists have moved about 15km to Mariupol. War is already part of the landscape. Some citizens say in a low voice that they are now more afraid than ever of the conflict, but there is no talk of a mass exodus of the population.
The BBC reports that there is no danger on the horizon from the Russian border. The only vehicles coming from across the border were tractors and not tanks. However, Russia’s plans for Ukraine are in the long run.
