The Bulgarian Parliament has approved the proposal of the French Presidency of the Council of the EU to start negotiations for the accession of Northern Macedonia to the EU.
After hours of debate, Bulgarian lawmakers voted to lift the veto under the terms of the French presidency’s proposal with 170 votes in favor, 37 against and 21 abstentions.
This proposal is the first step towards receiving the green light and the start of negotiations between Northern Macedonia and the EU.
The proposal must now be accepted by the Council of Ministers, which will send it to Brussels.
