Protests have broken out in several Iranian cities following the collapse of a building in Abadan, which left 34 people dead. In these protests, chants of “Death to Khamenei” were heard.

Another 37 people were injured in the collapse of the building, while teams are continuing to search for more bodies. It is believed that even over 25 victims may be trapped under the rubble.
Authorities have blamed the accident on low construction standards. So far it has been reported that 13 people have been arrested for violating standards during construction.
Protesters, however, say Government negligence and endemic corruption are to blame for the crash.
Videos posted on social media show some protesters chanting “Death to Khamenei,” a reference to Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.
Abadan, an oil-rich province, is home to an Arab minority living in Iran, and members of the minority have long complained of being treated as second-class citizens.
