British Prince Andrew, who recently lost his royal titles and will face trial for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old at the villas of American-Jewish pedophile Epstein, has told lawyers the accuser may suffer from “false memories”. .
Documents prepared for the trial show that Virginia Giuffre’s husband, Robert, and psychologist Dr Judith Lightfoot are required to be examined under oath.
Judge Lewis Kaplan, who will hear the case in New York, has called witnesses for the trial, which will begin later this year.
Prince Andrew, 61, is accused by Ms. Giuffre of being one of several men who had sex with her when she was trafficked for sex by pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein when she was 17, a minor under U.S. law.
The prince’s lawyers want to ask the accuser’s husband Robert Giuffre, about their finances and how they got to know each other in 2002, the documents say.
They also want to ask her psychologist Dr Judith Lightfoot, about the topics she has discussed with her and the medications she has recommended.
The prince’s lawyers say Ms. Giuffre, now 38, “can suffer from false memories,” so they want to examine psychologist Dr Lightfoot for a “possible theory of false memories.”
Dr Lightfoot and Giuffre, who both live in Australia, could be questioned under oath with direct video links, the documents say.
Giuffre’s lawyers are seeking the summoning of former Prince Robert Olney’s aide as a witness to uncover details of the prince’s relationship with financial trafficker Epstein, who died suddenly in prison while awaiting charges of sexually trafficking minors. / BBC /
