Foreign Secretary Liz Tras will take over as Britain’s negotiator with the European Union on Northern Ireland Protocol following the resignation of Secretary of State for Brexit David Frost.
““Tras will take ministerial responsibility for the UK’s relations with the European Union with immediate effect and will lead the ongoing negotiations to resolve the issues arising from the continued functioning of the Northern Ireland Protocol.” says the Downing Street statement.
Liz Trace has been tasked with taking over post-Brexit issues, particularly the controversial protocol governing specific customs arrangements in Northern Ireland.
Tras, a former trade minister who took office as foreign minister in September, is popular at the Conservative Party base.
