Britain has accused President Putin of plotting to install a pro-Moscow figure to lead Ukraine’s government.
The British Foreign Office took the unusual step by naming former Ukrainian MP Yevhen Murayev as a possible Kremlin candidate. In a statement, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said: “The information released today sheds light on the extent of Russian activity aimed at overthrowing Ukraine and is a reflection of the Kremlin’s thinking.
Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry wrote on Twitter that the British was “circulating misinformation” and asked her to “stop these provocative activities” and “stop the spread of fraud.”
Western-led Western powers have warned that tough sanctions could be imposed if Ukraine is invaded. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken reinforced this warning in an interview with CNN where he stated that if a single Russian soldier aggressively crosses the border, there will be a united and harsh response from America and its allies.
Russia has repeatedly denied that it planned to launch an attack, but President Putin has made demands to the West, including the condition that Ukraine not be allowed to join NATO’s military alliance.
