Exercising is always a good idea, but the time when you need to exercise to have positive results can be different for women and different for men.
According to one study, women burn more calories when exercising in the morning, unlike men who consider dinner to be the best period.
Hormonal changes, sleep cycle and other changes affect the body’s reaction after exercise.
The study in 30 men and 26 women aged 25-55, all active and healthy, lasted a 12-week period in which the effects of a different fitness program were monitored, which included exercise, running, resistance and endurance.
One group practiced for an hour before 08:30, while the other group attended the same activities in the evening, from 18:00 to 20:00. All participants followed a meal plan created for them.
The researchers tested everyone’s blood pressure and body fat during the study, as well as their aerobic flexibility, strength and power at the beginning and end.
All participants in the study improved their overall health and performance during the 12-week trial, regardless of when they exercised.
“The best time to exercise is when you can, according to your routine,” says Dr. Paul Arcerio, lead author of the study. But he points out that the ideal time of day to exercise is different for women and men.
Based on the results achieved, women interested in reducing waist fat and lowering blood pressure should engage in morning physical activity, says Dr. Arcerio. It is necessary because belly fat wraps around the internal organs of the body, including the liver, and can be dangerous.
However, he says women who try to improve muscle strength in the upper body, as well as their general mood and food intake, should do exercises in the evening.
Men in probation were less sensitive to the time of day they exercised, improving their strength in the morning and in the evening. But the evening workout was found to be “ideal for men interested in improving heart health and metabolism, as well as emotional well-being,” says Dr. Arcerio.
It is not clear exactly why men and women’s responses to training time were so different, and researchers say more research is needed to find out more. They say women can burn more body fat in the morning because they are more likely to have excess belly fat.
