The Gjirokastra Chamber of Advocates has announced today the continuation of the boycott for court hearings in both levels of the judiciary due to the lack of reaction to their requests regarding the new court map.
They have opposed this new project as unfounded in local specifics and as a superficial project that would only increase the costs of justice workers, unbalance the economic chain and oust law experts and lawyers.
Today in Gjirokastra 24 hearings were not held while during the last week more than 120 trials were canceled. Local Chamber leader Tahir Novi said the protest would continue.
Lawyers in all southern districts are opposing the new court-design project, arguing that the growing demographic trend, the presence of the tourism market as well as the geographical distances and costs for residents of the outskirts of the country have not been taken into account.
Previously, lawyers and experts have warned the appeal of the project in the Administrative Court as well as the temporary suspension of licenses if the project will go for implementation.
According to the new court map, only the first instance courts in each district center will remain active and every other instance of the judiciary will be relocated to Tirana, while a second administrative court is planned in Lushnje in function of the South of the country.
