The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, stated today that Britain could have acted more quickly regarding the provision of visas for Ukrainian refugees.
Asked by ‘Good Morning Britain’ about thousands of women and children still waiting for their visas to be processed, the UK Prime Minister said: “Could we have done it faster? “Yes, maybe we can.”
But Johnson defended the decision not to allow visa-free travel for Ukrainians, as other European countries have done, as a precautionary measure to protect the system for those who may want to abuse it.
Earlier, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Vadym Prystaiko said that the process was being worked on, but said that although it was a time of war, Britain should be careful about who entered the country, as there were also abuses.
As of April 27, 86,100 visas had been issued by the UK for Ukrainian refugees, but so far only 27,100 have arrived.
