The United Kingdom has also begun withdrawing some staff from the embassy in Ukraine.
According to US media reports, the New York Times and CNN, the United States is considering deploying 1,000 to 5,000 troops in eastern Ukraine and the Baltic states to combat the deployment of Russian troops.
NATO member states, including Denmark, Spain, Bulgaria and the Netherlands, are already sending more fighter jets and warships to eastern Europe to boost defense in the region.
When US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov last week, Russia said it hoped “emotions would subside.”

The United States and its allies have threatened Russia with new economic sanctions if it acts against Ukraine.
The Kremlin has said it sees NATO as a security threat and seeks legal guarantees that the alliance will not expand eastward.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has rejected Russia’s veto and said the alliance defends the right “for each nation to decide for itself”.

Russian-backed rebels also control eastern Ukraine near Russia’s borders.
