US President Joe Biden has ordered the deployment of another 3,000 troops to Poland for fear of possible Russian aggression against Ukraine, a senior US official announced on Friday.
“By order of the President, Secretary (Lloyd) Austin ordered today that the remaining 3,000 soldiers of the 82nd Parachute Division from the base in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, be sent to Poland,” the official said in a statement.
The troops will leave Fort Bragg in the coming days and are expected to arrive in Poland early next week.
They will be joined in Poland by 1,700 troops sent there by US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin on February 2.
U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said Russia could attack Ukraine at any time and that the invasion could begin with airstrikes and missile strikes, followed by a ground invasion.
