US President Joe Biden arrived in Brussels on Wednesday at 9pm to join summits with European allies, the G7 and NATO, which are expected to focus on the Russian occupation of Ukraine.
Biden is expected to announce new sanctions against Russian political figures and oligarchs during Thursday’s summits. U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said Biden would also discuss the whereabouts of NATO forces on its eastern edge and emergency plans for a possible Russian use of chemical or nuclear weapons.
Biden will begin NATO meetings by meeting with Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, where he will attend the extraordinary summit.
Ukrainian President Vlodymyr Zelensky will also be present at the summit via video link.
While on Friday when Biden is expected to go to Poland, will be discussed on European energy issues, where the president is expected to emphasize the position that the US will look at the possibility of increasing liquefied natural gas supplies to Europe in the coming weeks.
